Ominous Nature is a sequel to the previous exhibition Solar Wonderland, also with BMG Art. These recent paintings once again bring to the fore the natural environment as the core narrative. For this series the aesthetic boundary of a frugal palette is pushed to its limit, setting the stage for the monochromes to pulse ominously through the brushwork. Sum Woon Chow artist, 2023

For well over a decade now I have been a regular visitor to Kangaroo Island and exploring its beaches has become something of a ritual for me.
The Southern beaches, particularly D’Estrees Bay and the dramatic Wreckers Beach, hold a special fascination and exploring them has brought much solace from life’s turmoil and troubles. Along these shores you encounter a random order of natural worlds strewn before you that speak of the brief and ephemeral, as well as of the vastly ancient. With the despairing eternity of the Great Southern Ocean as a backdrop, you can still find traces of life that existed in the vast Devonian Sea that once rolled in on these shores 450 million years ago, now overlaid by the daily deposits of wind and tide.
This exhibition has been inspired by these observations and sources as it seeks to bring something of my experience of them to life through a transformation process. Found and altered objects are included in this exhibition along with ceramic forms and surfaces that evoke the unique colours and textures that make up this complex beach world. Jeff Mincham, artist
