As a schoolboy in 1930, Thesiger saw the coronation of Emperor Haile Selassie, the Lion of Judah, in Ethiopia where he was born. Lived with Kenyan tribes and Iraq’s Marsh Arabs. Crossed the Empty Quarter of Arabia on a camel - a life of exploring a world now gone.
