Leigh Warren
Leigh Warren is a self-taught artist and internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer. He is also acknowledged for his work as an artistic director and producer of opera, theatre and film. His career has spanned over 40 years working with international dance companies. He was the inaugural recipient of the Churchill Scholarship for the Performing Arts, which he completed at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. He was the Artistic Director of the Australian Dance Theatre for six years until he formed his own company, Leigh Warren Dance, in 1993.
These extraordinary abilities have been seamlessly integrated with his talents on canvas. While he has worked with the human figure for most of his professional life, his paintings are abstract forms shaped in his subconscious and transferred to a material presence. His intuition and sense of colour serve to remind us that this is a person equally at home in the theatre or in front of an easel.
